Music Program - Midterms

Hard to believe it is the middle of the second nine weeks already.  Please check your child's grades on PowerSchool.

We are wrapping up Cricket in Times Square and Unit 5 in math.  Measuring angles is coming up in Unit 6.

Letter from Mr. Doublestein:

Parents,

Brown Elementary’s second and fourth grade students have worked very hard preparing for their winter music programs on Wednesday, December 18th in the gymnasium.  Included will be songs, instrument pieces and dances that will be sure to put you in the Christmas spirit!  The two programs will be separate, the second graders starting the night off at 6:30 and the fourth graders starting at 7:30.  I expect both programs to take just over a half hour with a stage change break in between.  Students are asked to wear their Dog Dash t-shirts and jeans and to arrive fifteen minutes prior to their performance time.  They will be met by their teachers in the cafeteria before lining up and entering the gym.  While it is strongly encouraged that all students attend this culminating music performance we ask that those who are unable to do so contact Mr. Doublestein at wdoublestein@brownsburg.k12.in.us by Wednesday, November 27th.  Many of the pieces depend on the contributions of every performer, and any absences will need to be anticipated.  Thank you for all your help and support as we strive to give kids positive experiences that will develop a life-long appreciation for music.  I look forward to seeing you on December 18th!

Midterms and ISTEP+

We are halfway through our first nine weeks.  Please check grades on PowerSchool.  If you ever have questions just ask.

ISTEP+ scores are in.  Your kids did great last year!  Let's keep that going throughout this year.  I am very excited for your kids.

Math test unit 2 will be this week.  Ask your child about Despereaux.  Our vocabulary will be a little different this week and next - definitions only based on Latin roots ped and re.

Continue checking assignment notebooks nightly.

Monday, August 26

Lots of graded papers have gone home over the past several weeks.  Please check PowerSchool for your child's grades or better yet, have them emailed to you once a week.  Sign up on PowerSchool through Brownsburg's home page!
Make sure your child knows their multiplication facts...
* Brown Elementary will be “Spreading the Love” in September. What does that mean? National Hunger Action Month is held every September in an attempt to raise awareness of the hunger problem in communities. Food banks across the country sponsor activities and events to educate, engage and mobilize the public in the fight against hunger. Brown Elementary has been invited to participate in a campaign sponsored by Gleaners Food Bank and the new Shine.FM where we are going to “Spread the Love” by collecting jars of peanut butter throughout the month of September.
We will be keeping track of how many jars of peanut butter each classroom brings in and the winning classroom at Brown receives a pizza party in October, sponsored by Shine.FM. The collection boxes will be located right outside the door of each classroom. Through various schools participating, their goal is to collect 50,000 jars of peanut butter. Let’s help them reach their goal and provide needed food for many families.

Math Test Unit 1

Unit 1 math test is Wednesday of this week.  We reviewed today and will review tomorrow.

Parent Information Night

Parents,

Our information night will be tomorrow at 6:30.  I'll review our day, discuss subject areas/tests/quizzes/assignment notebook, and review expectations.  Come with any questions you have.  I'll try to keep my portion to 30 minutes that way there will be time for questions that may not have gotten answered.

Thanks!

Fourth Graders

Welcome to all of our new fourth graders.  Several students wanted their own rulers, scissors, compasses (for math not science N,S,E,W), protractors, and calculators.  We have these supplies at Brown, but several students wanted their own so we wrote those supplies in our assignment notebooks today.

Everyone is keeping high expectations, and our students are meeting those.  We have several grades in PowerSchool - please check your child's grades.  We are reading Oliver's Travels, working on geometry in math, and are creating a writing rubric in class.  The days are flying by.

A Note from Ms. Hall about Sketchbooks

There have been questions about the spiral sketchbook for art. Last year Walmart stocked them for us with all of the art supplies. Unfortunately, they did not do that this year. Please pass on to questioning parents that Target has the Up and Up brand (spaceship on the front) spiral bound sketchbook. Avon, 38th street, and Plainfield have them in stock I believe. Also Prizm Art Supply has a lot of options some 8.5 x 11 and some 9 x 12. All should be under $7. Sorry about the inconvenience about that this year. We will have to talk to Walmart next year.

Attention Future Fourth Graders and their Parents...

Tuesday night is supply drop off night.  I have a manila folder on your desk.  Please take that folder home and all of its contents.  There are directions in the folder.  Please fill out the necessary information and return it to school on our first day (Thursday).  Please read the other information as it will ease your transition to fourth grade.

Students:  If you don't know your addition, subtraction, or multiplication facts...  you really need to learn them (especially multiplication).  Practice, practice, practice.

Enjoy your last week of summer break!
